Curriculum Homework

In Class 2 homework is set to support the learning that the children have been doing, or will be doing, in class. The homework is given as a series of learning objectives so that parents can see exactly what we have already learnt, or what we will be learning about in future weeks. Often, particularly for maths or grammar and punctuation, I will set a specific task for the children to complete. The activity will be stuck into their homework books with the instructions for completing the task. For other subjects, such as science, I encourage the children to show me their understanding in their own way, although I always give suggestions of what they might wish to do.

Generally, the homework is set every two weeks or as I see fit. Sometimes, the learning in class does not always support learning that they can do at home, so there may be times when there is less homework. The due date for the homework is always written at the top of the objective grids which I stick into the children's 'Home Learning' books.

The homework expectation for children in Class 2 is for roughly an hour a week. As I set the homework over a two week cycle, I expect 2 hours of homework. The amount of homework that a child can complete in this time will be varied. If your child only manages one of the activities within the 2 hours and you have signed to say that it took them 2 hours, then I never question why they have not done all of it. If you wish to complete all of the homework even though it may take more than 2 hours, you are welcome to do so!

If there is ever a difficulty completing the homework, please do not worry. Write me a little note in their homework book or catch me on the playground - it is never a problem. I also welcome brief notes about any questions or aspects of the homework that the children have found difficult as it all useful information.

I will add a copy of the new homework objectives grid to this page of the website every time I set homework. Click on the link for the date of the most recent homework to find out what your child should be doing.
