Promoting British Values

Promoting spiritual, moral, social and cultural development

In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law.

The Key Values are:

  • democracy
  • rule of law
  • individual liberty
  • mutual respect
  • tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs

Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural Education (SMSC) as well as promoting British Values are very important to us. We seek to promote this through all we do and the culture we aspire for through our own school values.

Examples of how we do this include:

  • Awareness of cultures and beliefs through a range of curriculum work and in school assemblies.
  • Encouraging children to support each other through being buddies, help partners or play leaders.
  • Promoting democracy and debate through activities such as the school council and debates in class.
  • Celebrating a range of cultures through the curriculum and assemblies such as Chinese New Year, Eid, Hannukah, and Christian festivals throughout the year.
  • Supporting charities such as Comic Relief, Children in Need, Operation Imprezza and others.
