Secondary School Transfer

Transition from primary to secondary School

Our children transfer to a selection of local secondary schools including Teignmouth Community School, Torquay Boys and Girls Grammar Schools and occassionally Newton Abbot College.

We work closely with all of them to ensure a smooth transition for our children.

Parents apply for secondary school places during the autumn term and places are confirmed at the beginning of March.

For those seeking entry to the grammar schools the 11+ tests take place in September with an indication of result letter sent to parents in October.

Most children however transfer to Teignmouth Community School, Torquay Boys Grammar School or Torquay Girls Grammar School. Each school has its own transition arrangements and some brief details are included below.

Torquay Boys Grammar School (TBGS)

Boys seeking entry to TBGS take the 11+ test in September. A letter indicating the likelihood of an application being successful is then sent to parents in October to enable them to apply for a place before the deadline. A teacher from TBGS will then visit the children in May / June and in early July children transferring are invited to take part in an induction day.

Torquay Girls Grammar School (TBGS)

Girls seeking entry to TGGS take the 11+ test in September. A letter indicating the likelihood of an application being successful is then sent to parents in October to enable them to apply for a place before the deadline. A teacher from TGGS will then visit the children in May / June and in early July children transferring are invited to take part in an induction day.

Teignmouth Community School (TCS)

Children are visited by a member of staff during May / June to enable them to get to know each other. For the final two weeks of term children attend induction at TCS. Transport is provided for this and the children are picked up form and return to Stokeinteignhead at the beginning and the end of the school day.

Details of how to apply for admission to secondary school will be sent to parents of children in Year 6 during the first week in September. If you have not received this, please contact the Admissions Service Team.

The closing date for applying for a secondary places is at the end of October
