Specialist Teachers and CPD

Specialist coaches have been deployed by the school in a wide variety of areas with the intention of giving opportunities and access to high quality opportunities for all children. As a result of this there is consistently high quality teaching and learning with children of all ages making good progress. Children have had specialist coaching in Invasion Games, Athletics, Badminton, Outdoor Activities, and Swimming. These activities have been accessed by children of all age groups. We have accessed a high quality local provision which provides regular teaching to the children and also the opportunity for staff to observe and learn for professional development.

Inclusive PE curriculum & Provision

PP, SEN, G&T children are all well provided for within the PE and School Sport. Within lessons individual needs are met through differentiated and open ended tasks, use of a range of equipment, adapted games and peer coaching. Intervention programmes such as fun fit are in place to support learners with particular needs. All sports opportunities are open to all children who are keen to extend their learning and develop their skills. Children are signposted to local clubs to challenge themselves further.

Increased range of traditional and alternative sporting activities

The school sports premium has allowed our school to increase the range of sports on offer to learners. All children have taken part in specialist coaching for Invasion Games, Athletics, Badminton and Swimming which was previously restricted to one Key Stage is now available as a regular activity across the school. Specialist coaching provision in now in place for all learners from the foundation stage through to upper Key Stage 2.

The improvement in partnership work on physical education with other schools and other local partners.

We have developed a strong partnership with Torquay United Football in the community. This has enabled us to benefit from their coaching expertise and develop a wide ranges of sporting opportunities for the children beyond traditional sports. We have also a strong relationship with Teignmouth Lido and all children have participated in swimming lessons with older children taking part in RNLI ‘Hit the Surf’ events.

Links with other subjects that contribute to pupils overall achievement and their greater social, spiritual, moral and cultural skills

Funding has been used to support a range of outdoor activities such as caving, climbing and orienteering. These have also helped develop team work, interdependence and independence skills in a range of situations and also given children access to a new range of activities.

The greater awareness amongst pupils about the dangers of obesity, smoking and other such activities that undermine pupil’s health

Through working in partnership with Torquay United Football Club children have taken part in a healthy lifestyles programme covering areas such as exercise, healthy eating and the dangers of smoking. This has raised awareness amongst children as well as actively promoting a healthy lifestyle for all.
